Top 10

The Top Ten Ideas I have Learned from Professor Daberkow and Class:

1. Involve the Parents- use power point tutorials, videos, games and activities for home, be sure to include contact information so parents feel that you are willing to help them when needed
2. Building Relationships is Key (1. Act value neutral- different cultures have different values, 2. Never blame the parents or the kids, 3. Don’t give up on your kids)
3. Star Fish Stories- don't forget about the positives that are occurring in your classroom. You can not change the whole world, but every student you help makes a difference for that child.
4. Collaborate- have to sell what you do  (Matt DeMatteis)
5. Motivation- find a balance between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation
6. Constructivism- knowledge is constructed off of existing knowledge
7. Math Common Core- problem solving- show that students truly understand the problem
8. Use "We Can" Statements- builds a community, students should always know why they are doing what they are doing
9.  Rigor and Relevance model- be able to decide where each math problem falls on the model, not every lesson is going to be in the D quadrant (high rigor and high relevance)
10. FIP (Formal Instructional Processes) your school- clear learning targets, provide effective feedback, ownership of learning, collect data
